Overview
Celebrate our youngest residents with a joyful, dignity-affirming birthday party each month. Volunteers will help create a festive space, host kid-friendly activities, serve treats, and ensure a smooth, safe experience for children and their caregivers at The Salvation Army Women’s & Children’s Shelter.
Primary Responsibilities

Set-Up & Décor: Transform the common room with banners, balloons, tablecloths, and themed centerpieces; arrange gift and activity stations.

Activity Hosts: Lead crafts, simple games, reading corner, and a coloring table; encourage inclusive play and kind engagement.

Food & Cake Service: Plate cupcakes/snacks, pour beverages, manage allergy-aware labeling, and maintain a clean serving area.

Gifts & “Birthday Boutique”: Help staff organize age-appropriate gifts; discreetly assist caregivers so every child feels celebrated.

Tidy & Reset: Break down decorations, wipe tables, sweep, take out trash, and reset the room for regular use.
Schedule & Location

When: The 4th Wednesday of every month

Shifts:

Set-Up Crew: Start setting up at 6pm- (30 minutes before party start)

Party Crew: Party time 6:30-8pm(approx. 1.5 hours)

Reset Crew: 8pm-8:30pm (30 minutes after party ends)

Dress Code

Closed-toe shoes; comfortable, family-friendly attire.
Qualifications

Warm, patient, and kid-friendly; able to follow staff direction.

Age: 16+ (minors must serve with a parent/guardian).

Maintain safe boundaries and trauma-informed, non-judgmental care.

Comfortable standing/walking for up to 2–3 hours (accommodations available).

Training & Check-In

Kiosk Check-In: Sign in/out on arrival at the Iserv Volunteer tablet kiosk.

Orientation: On-site briefing covers roles, schedule, safety, and emergency procedures.

Safe From Harm Training required if you're an ongoing Volunteer

Photos of residents/children allowed only with permission. All photos must be updated to Staff-provided link for approval of use on official company websites & social media only. Not allowed on personal websites or personal social media accounts.
Report spills, breaks, or concerns to staff immediately.
