Overview

“Feed & Fellowship Dinner” is a hands-on, heart-forward volunteer experience designed to provide both nourishment and connection to the clients of our Men’s & Veterans Shelter. Volunteers will assist with meal service, engage in meaningful fellowship, and help ensure a clean, welcoming dining space for our participants.

 This opportunity is available on Tuesday's & Saturday's only. 

Primary Responsibilities

1.  Meal Service

o    Assist kitchen staff with final meal prep (plating, portioning, etc.).

o    Serve dinner to clients in an organized and respectful manner.

o    Monitor serving stations to ensure food is replenished and presented well.

2.  Fellowship & Support

o    Engage clients in healthy and appropriate conversation.

o    Offer encouragement and active listening during mealtime.

o    Create a welcoming, inclusive dining environment.

3.  Cleanup & Reset

o    Collect and dispose of trash.

o    Wipe down tables, counters, and serving stations.

o    Wash, dry, and store dishes and utensils.

o    Sweep and mop dining area if needed.

o    Reset the dining room for the next day’s use.


Volunteer Roles & Suggested Breakdown for up to 5 People

  • 1 Server: Manage the food line, plate meals, and ensure portions are consistent.
  • 2 Dining Room Hosts: Focus on guest interaction, beverage refills, and keeping tables clean during dinner.
  • 1 Cleanup Crew Member: Begin dishwashing, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash during/after dinner.
  • 1 Floater: Assist wherever needed—may fill in for servers, help with the beverage station, or assist in cleanup.

 

Schedule Flow (approximate)

4:15 – 4:30 PM – Arrival, sign-in, orientation & role assignments, team photo
4:30 – 4:45 PM – Set up serving stations & dining area
4:45 – 5:45 PM – Dinner service & guest fellowship
5:45 – 6:15 PM – Cleanup (dishes, tables, floors, trash)
6:15 – 6:30 PM – Final walkthrough, reset, and team debrief and team photo

 

Attire & Requirements

  • Closed-toe shoes (non-slip recommended)
  • Modest, comfortable clothing suitable for kitchen/dining service
  • Hair tied back; (hairnets will be provided)
  • Hands washed and covered (gloves will be provided)
  • Positive, respectful, and compassionate attitude
