The "Red Shield Lunch" is more than a meal—it is a moment of dignity, compassion, and connection offered to our neighbors in need. By serving at Red Shield Lunch, you become a key part of the chain of care that nourishes both body and spirit. Your presence helps transform a simple meal into a moment of hope and connection for every person who walks through the line, helping to create an atmosphere that reflects The Salvation Army’s mission of Doing the Most Good.
Primary Responsibilities
1.Client Interaction
o Greet individuals warmly and with respect, maintaining a positive and compassionate demeanor.
o Engage with people in a non-judgmental, empathetic manner.
o Be sensitive to the needs and dignity of each person served.
2. Food Preparation and Serving
o Assist in preparing meals or food items in accordance with safety guidelines and health regulations.
o Serve meals to individuals in a timely,
courteous, and respectful manner.
3. Food Safety and Hygiene
o Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures to maintain a clean and safe environment.
4. Logistics and Setup
o Set up the lunch line and serving area
o Organize meal bags
o Help with packing and distributing meal bags, when necessary.
5. Stock Monitoring and Supply Management
o Keep track of food and supplies, reporting shortages or needs to the appropriate staff or leadership.
o Assist in organizing inventory and ensuring efficient distribution
of resources.
6. Cleanup and Breakdown
o Assist in cleaning the serving area after meals have been served.
o Properly dispose of waste.
7. Team Collaboration
o Work collaboratively with other Volunteers and Staff to ensure efficient operations.
o Communicate effectively with the team, especially in high-demand or high-traffic situations.
